MINI and JUNIOR COURSES
Huntingdon Tennis Centre runs a range of courses for kids to cover various levels of age and ability as follows:
- Whackit - for the very young, 3+ years, to develop hand/eye co-ordination through a series of fun games. They learn to hold a small racket and get to hit soft balls.
- Mini Red - generally 5+ years but still beginners continuing hand/eye co-ordination skills but with more racket and ball use. Small courts, low nets, small rackets and soft balls - just like tennis but loads of fun. Mini Red Squads are subsidised by the LTA and Hunts Tennis Club.
- Mini Orange - 7-9 years. Moving on up in years and skills with increased court size, racket size and a quicker ball. More tennis strokes and rallies are introduced to reflect the improvement.
- Mini Green - 8-10 years, bigger and stronger kids GO for Green using a full size court and faster ball.
At all the Mini levels our coaches are trained to attract and identify talented kids. We encourage young players to take part in FUN sessions with opportunities to participate in Mini-Tennis Tournaments against other clubs.
Whackit and Mini Red courses are run indoors so these sessions are guaranteed. Mini Orange and Mini Green - Outside Courts.
Discounted fees offered to Huntingdon Junior Tennis Club members who must be 8+ years.
- Junior Beginners - the cross over point for Mini Greens to young adults and for newcomers to the club in the appropriate age/ability bracket. Everything in the game is now full size, from court size, net height and ball composition. Competition becomes the key motivator.
- Junior Improvers - players are invited by the coaches to these courses. Senior members look worried as the improvers join in Adult sessions and out hit us! The talented are identified for Development and Performance Coaching and contenders for County and higher levels.
- Development and Performance Coaching - for those who have been in the game for several years and who play competitively. Call Centre Manager for information.
At Junior level the Performance Coach evaluates each player and ensures they are placed in the correct squad for their level of ability. They play both singles and doubles events. At the coaches discretion good juniors are invited to Adult Club sessions and recommended for Adult Team selection.
Selected elite player options are discussed with respective parents and individual programs of development planned. They receive Performance Coaching and play in County or higher events. The area Talent Performance Co-ordinator is alerted to ensure each elite player is registered in the system and passed on to a High Performance Club for further development at County, National and International levels.
All Junior Courses are Outdoors
We will accept children onto courses in mid-session when applicable so contact Centre Manager to confirm course and cost
