What are Mini Tennis Ratings for?

If you have a child under 10 years old who is signed up to or thinking about signing up to our Mini Tennis Courses you might like to know that along with the enormous fun and excitement in learning how to play tennis the young players can get a rating.

With a Mini Tennis Rating they will get more chances to compete against players of a similar standard in local competitions. Each child can see how they are improving and with a rating you are starting on the same pathway as Andy Murray or Laura Robson.

• Move from Level 4 › 3 › 2 once you have played the number of matches – win or lose.
• Move from Level 2 › 1 once you have won a certain number of games
• Mixed gender matches count at red, orange & green levels
• Doubles matches count for played matches but NOT wins total
• Red 1 moves to Orange 2 at age 8 or Orange 4 if younger
• Orange 1 moves to Green 2 at correct age
• Green 1 gives you a 9.2 rating at correct age

Top Tips for Mini Tennis players

l GET STARTED – ask your Coach to sign you up to British Tennis Membership to get your RATING

l WHEN TO COMPETE – to play your best you should try to compete in QUALITY matches as much as possible all year round. With your Coach, parent/carer start to structure your competitive schedule as you get older

l LEARN FROM MATCHES – you IMPROVE while you COMPETE. Competition gives you the opportunity to test yourself against players of a similar standard and see where you need to improve

l PREPARE FOR COMPETITION – get a good nights sleep by packing your bag and going to BED EARLY. Make sure to arrive early for the competition

l WHAT TO EAT BEFORE YOU COMPETE – top players stick to a HEALTHY DIET, high in carbohydrates and low in fat. Foods such as pasta and fruit and vegetables will improve your energy levels

l ENJOY IT – always remember to ENJOY playing and competing but at the same time try to improve and be the best that you can be
